INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE RUSSIAN WOOD – INNOVATIONS & INVESTMENTS

December 3 2003--The project is organized by MVK Holding Company, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia and Centrlesexpo Company.

With active participation of the Russian Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies, the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economic Development and Commerce.

Supported by the Administration of the Russian President, the Russian Government, the Sate Duma and the Federal Council of the Russian Federal Assembly.

The Russian Government pays special attention to development of the timber and woodworking industries in this country. Legal regulations concerning these industries are being revised and improved; a new project version of the Timber Codex of the Russian Federation is being finished.

However, development of the timber industry is hampered by insufficient equipment of timber enterprises with up-to-date efficient machinery and technologies. The existing production facilities for logging and value-added wood processing are outdated, and thus, it is impossible to use vast resources of this Russian sector effectively. A large part of timber resources depreciates and perishes.

All the problems that the timber industry faces can be solved with the help of a large-scale modernization, re-equipment of plants and creation of new advanced production facilities.

An international conference "Actual Challenges of Development of Logging and Value-added Wood Processing" will be held as part of the exhibition WOODEX-2003 December 9-12, 2003. The conference is organized on the initiative of the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters of Russia and the Russian Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies in order to draw attention of Russian and foreign investors and manufacturers of equipment for the timber industry to the problems in this sector.
The plenary session (on December 9) will include speeches by members of the Russian Government (B.A. Aleshin, I.I. Klebanov), heads of ministries and government institutions (G.O. Gref, S. G. Mitin, V. V. Usov), heads of regional administration (V. M. Kress), heads of branch unions (M.V. Tatsun), as well as scientists, businessmen from the CIS, Baltic and other countries. The floor will also be given to heads of international organizations of the timber industry, the Food and Agriculture Organization, the European Organization of the Sawmill Industry, FEFCO, PFC and the International Financial Corporation.
